Wanderers Cricket Club
WebNews August 27th 2005
Greetings all and a special welcome to those receiving our Wanderers WebNews for the first time.

Quite a few new names were added to our WebNews mailing list following the sign-on recently and these WebNews are our major form of communication with members, families and supporters. Suffice to say though, if you do not wish to receive the Wanderers WebNews just reply to this email and request to be taken off the mailing database.

As the season fast approaches there needs to be some housekeeping done, so first up we’ll talk about junior coaches & coaching. Wanderers Cricket Club require all Coaches to be fully compliant with the Qld Government’s “Blue Card” regulations and conditions. If you have undertaken a coaching role this season you will need to ensure that your “Blue Card” is still current as I believe you do not get advice that it is about to expire, please check it. If you haven’t yet applied for a “Blue Card” we have applications forms at the Clubhouse and you’ll need to fill it in and hand to the Secretary who will endorse it & submit it on Wanderers behalf. You can check out whether you need a “Blue Card” by going to our website and clicking on the relevant links.

We have already 6 or 7 people who have expressed their interest in undertaking a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation course that is conducted by Qld Cricket. If you would like to know more about this, please email us. We are currently attempting to get a course date from Qld Cricket’s Regional Manager Tony Hampson.

Could all Junior Coaches please reply to this email and give us your contact details and the time(s) you are training each week, this is very important.

Senior training has already commenced on Tuesdays & Thursdays starting at 5:30pm and going through to approx 7 – 7:30pm.

A hearty congratulations from all of us to Matthew Castek & Lydia Rosier who will this evening (Saturday) become engaged. Well done to both of you.

Our first social for this season will be a Trivia Night at the Clubhouse on Saturday October 8th. Put this in your diary now. I believe the night will have an Australiana theme. Tickets & full details are still being compiled and as soon as they come to hand we’ll let you know. I also believe that entry will be only by pre-purchased tickets, so when they become available, get them fast as previous Trivia Nights have proved to be extremely popular and heaps of fun.

The concept of selling perimeter advertising will be fully released within the next fortnight; it really does look great as we set up an example the other day. We hope to have photos available and application forms ready very soon. There have already been a few modules sold.

I was amazed to see the number of juniors at training yesterday (Friday) afternoon. This would have to be one of the largest number of junior players I’ve seen so early in the season and we are still signing kids up. The senior numbers also appear very strong and there is a very confident attitude at training. Hopefully we can transplant all these good vibes into premierships this coming season.

Club meeting is on this coming Monday night (29th August) and we should see a solid roll-up following the recent AGM. We are hoping to instigate that each team (juniors & seniors) have a representative at each club meeting this season. After this month’s meeting, our regular monthly Club meetings will be held on every 4th Monday of the month at 7pm.

Wilma has returned to the Wanderers fold and has undertaken the canteen / bar Convenor’s position. However, Wilma will still require assistance and we need to lighten her workload. Anyone who can assist, please contact Wilma or the Club, if we don’t get volunteers, we maybe forced into a team roster system each weekend.

This season is shaping up to be another great year for Wanderers, we have some extremely talented players throughout the grades and age groups and it is our aim to ensure all players are given the best coaching possible to not only enjoy the game but to flourish into representative players. It should be pointed out that it is a known fact that unless children have the full support of their parents and family then it is hard for the child to excel. Being a member / parent / supporter of Wanderers brings certain benefits and responsibilities. One thing we do not want to see is children being dropped off at cricket training or matches and the Coaches being used as a child-minding service, your kids want to see you there being interested in their achievements.

Last week we told you about Peter Gurr’s new website www.polytrailer.com and keeping with this theme, I intend to have a links page shortly on our club website dedicated to members / supporters / advertisers / sponsors. So if you fall into this category, please email me at info@wandererscricket.com and give me your website address. This week, I would like to highlight Steve Jeston’s Hyperspace Sportfishing Tours website. Have a look at it & weep in despair at the ultimate job. http://www.hyperspacesportfishing.com/

I’ll list below the Club’s new positions for this season and please don’t forget out the Club meeting on Monday night.
