Wanderers Cricket Club
Welcome to our final WebNews of 2007 and I trust that you all had an enjoyable Christmas celebration.

As mentioned in our previous WebNews, Wanderers had 10 players away on representative duties and I can now give you a brief analysis of their performances.

Andrew Martel was in Hobart for the Australian U/19 championships and performed admirably in a fairly lacklustre team by Queensland’s standards finishing last in the competition. Andrew averaged 38 batting and his bowling (off-spin) figures stacked up extremely well with 71 overs, 17 maidens, 9 wickets for 148 leaving him with an impressive bowling average of 16.44. Well done Andrew, you represented your state, club & family with distinction.

We had four players in the North Queensland Under 12 team, two bowlers & two batsmen. In the bowling department Ryan Agita returned the figures of 27-2-5-90 at an average of 18 and Matthew Holm’s figures were equally impressive 32-3-7-127 at an average of 18.14. Batting wise, Vivian Wolfindin scored 133 runs at an average 44.3 while Jack Jeston impressed with 115 runs averaging 38.3.

We had two bowlers in the Under 13 team, Stannis Agita was impressive with 31-5-8-109 at an average of 13.62 and he was well backed up by Aaron Dooley 17-3-2-67.

In the Under 14’s, bowler Zac Holm finished his championship is style with the figures of 30-1-9-143 at an average of 15.89.

In the Under 15’s, all-rounder Liam Hope-Shackley had a batting average of 18 and average with the ball an impressive 14.14 *** 16-1-7-99.

Matthew Ahern skippered the NQ Under 16 team, which by all accounts were a bit underdone in their preparation. Matt scored 103 runs at an average of 20.6 and was the second highest run scorer for NQ.

Overall, a fairly good showing by all our young representatives. We haven’t told our Papuan New Guinean partners yet about the two Agita brothers or they’ll be down in a flash to sign them up. Seriously though, our PNG friends will do well to keep an eye on these two players (and probably their 4 y/o brother) as they look like developing into something special.

The Townsville Junior Cricket results & statistics are now available on-line by going to the Sportzdat site & selecting what grade you are after. A very good tool for those wanting to follow the ladder, look at results or check out player statistics. The Web address is http://www.sportzdat.com.au/public/faces/main.jsp

Seniors commence training on Tuesday 1st January at around 5:30pm (you should have recovered by then). Training & final selections for round 7 will be on Thursday. We will be without three of our marquee players for this coming round with skipper Darren Frakes along with Ryan Dowson & Assad Vala off to the Australian Country Championships in Mackay. Assad will be playing for East Asia Pacific (EAP). Good luck to all three.

I was hoping to have the Goldfield Ashes draw in this WebNews but it appears it is already 4-5 days late appearing on their website. If you want, you can check it out yourself by using the following link http://www.goldfieldashes.com.au/draw
