This will probably be a short WebNews this week as there were a reduced number of senior matches and there hasn’t been that many junior reports submitted as most are in the middle of two-day matches.
But first, some very important house-keeping:
Senior fees: The response to our discounted senior fees structure has been very good overall and the Club is very happy with the overall response. Quite a few have paid their fees in full already and some have only a few weeks to take advantage of the second level discount. With only three senior fixture days remaining before the Christmas break players are reminded that the second level of discounts cut-off as at the 31st December, that is, if you want to take advantage of the $50 discount, the full $350 must be paid for before December 31 (no exceptions). If you haven’t paid the discounted $350 by then, then your fees will be $400.00 or $20.00 per day you played. Those paying their fees off at $20.00 per day are reminded to keep their payments coming in on a regular basis before they start adding up. Surprisingly, a few players have slipped under the radar and have not paid any fees to date, you know who you are, so please get some paid.
Junior Representative Subsidy: Wanderers have for many years, assisted financially, the families of those players who have been selected to represent at NQJCA level or above (excluding Schoolboys). In keeping this tradition alive, there will be a short presentation of cheques to these players to assist their families with the financial burden of representing NQ. This season, each family will receive in excess of $200.00. The presentation will take place at Junior training on Friday afternoon. The players are, Jack Jeston, Zak Holm, Liam Hope-Shackley, Matt Ahern, Taylor Worth, Lachlan Gurr & Wayne Darrel. Congratulations to you all!
Goldfield Ashes: How hard is it? You have been requested to put your names on the list (on the notice board) if you want to play for Wanderers at the Goldfield Ashes this season. To date, the junior contingent has heeded the advice but very few seniors are listed but yet we hear that the A grade will be there. C’mon guys, get off your butts & put your names on the list!
U10s Report for November 25th submitted by Bob Lawn.
Wanderers U10 Brown met Wanderers U10 White in the traditional intra-club friendly at Pimlico. This year, Brown was the more experienced side with 8 of last year’s rookies now ‘seasoned’ players, compared with only 4 second year players in the White team. White won the toss and sent Brown in to bat. At the end of their first 11 overs, Brown were 2 for 63, due mainly to some strong batting by their top order, but helped by the 28 wides sent down by White. In reply, White were 4/41 after their 11 overs, of which only 14 were wides delivered by Brown bowlers. In their second session, Brown put on another 73 for the loss of 4 wickets, to take their final score to 6/136. In their second session, White added another 54, for the loss of another 5 wickets, to end at 9/95.
For the White team, batting honours were Samuel Kriesel (12*), Jim Paskins (10), Brendon Mills (9*), Siddarth Roche (7), Sam Lansky (6*), Joseph Looby (4), Joe Bell (2), Cameron Murphy (2), Dylan DeBray (1*), Braedon Griffiths (1) and Tyler Roberts (1). In the bowling, Sam Lansky took 2/10, Samuel Kriesel 1/4 and Brendon Mills 1/5, with run-outs effected by Joseph Looby and Jim Paskins.
For the Brown team, batting honours were Riley Heaver (21), Connor McGovern (13*), William Orreal (13*), Michael Saunders (10), Darcy Cram (7), Kristofor Grant (6*), Craig Land (5*), Cathy Lawn (4*), Tori Lawn (4*) and Brendan Lund (1). In the bowling, Connor McGovern took 2/13, Brendan Lund 1/1, Michael Saunders 1/5, Kristofor Grant 1/8, Mark Land 1/11 and Lachlan Fanning 1/13. Riley Heaver bowled two maiden overs, while Darcy Cram, Mark Land and Lachlan Fanning effected run-outs. Catches were taken in the field by Michael Saunders and Riley Heaver, while William Orreal took a catch behind as ’keeper.
Overall, a comfortable win for Brown, their greater experience reflected on the day in generally stronger batting, tighter bowling and sharper fielding.
Wanderers Red U14 Blue
Jonathon Bagley with no hesitation in this 2 day game choose to bat after winning the toss against Northern Saints, a combined Norths/Saints team.
Northern Saints started strongly with fast accurate line and length balls taking two wickets in the first 3 overs. This only made Wanderers dig in and steadily increase the run rate. Norm Brown reached 32 off 33 balls and was unfortunate have a six disallowed as the wind took off a bail just as the ball was bowled. After Nick was cleaned up by another accurate ball Cameron Hobbs and Jye Heytman steadied the ship with an 80 run partnership. Jye was finally run out at 16 and Cameron sitting on 53 from 54 balls will open the batting with Lachlan Meikle next week.
Best batting: Cameron Hobbs 53*; Norm Brown 32; Jonathon Bagley 17; Jye Heytman 16
Wanderers started well dismissing the opening batsmen both for clean bowled ducks. Reds were 2 for 5 from the first 3 overs. Catches win matches with 6 opposition falling quickly. The visitors we all out for 51 from 17 overs.
Bowing: Nathan Donaldson 2/11, Norm Brown 2/6, Nick weyland 0/3, Lachlan Meikle 1/3, Jye Heytman 1/10, Jack Henry 2/11, Mitch Heaver 1/6 and Stephen Squires 1 wicket form 1 ball. Stephen is on a hat trick as his last ball in the last inning also took a wicket.
25/11/06 WANDERERS U14 BLUE – WHITE v BROWN - SKIP’S MATCH REPORT
It was back to beautiful Gill Park for the Grudge match between Wanderers Brown & White. With Anto away and Roscoe looking after the Red team, it was left to me and the evergreen Bob Lawn to run the match. With the Brown team short on players and the White team boosted by the return of Henry Martin, Lachlan Miller has now moved to the Brown team. Clean swap I would say, the Big Fella for the Big man. Of course we will miss you Big Fella.
Kuzzy and Jesse Kirby-Jones opened the bowling again, and a run out in the 3rd over had the Whites pumped up in the field. Runs came to the Browns at a steady pace, but so did the wickets. Great wicket keeping by Tim Saunders and Ricky Hlevnjak saw the byes under control and Ricky backed this up with some great catches and an excellent bowling effort. Browns finished the 1st innings at 6/103
Whites 1st innings started dismally with the ever-reliable Kurt Worth going for a duck in the 1st over. Jesse and Adam steadied the ship with an excellent partnership that continued through to the drinks break. Whites were looking good until after drinks when Adam was out caught by Drew, bringing Hayden Ede to the crease to make up for last weeks failure. Unfortunately Hayden has a short memory and played the same shot that got him out last week for the same result. Slowly but surely the run tally increased but the wickets fell at a more rapid pace as the inexperienced Whites played impatient shots that lost wickets when there was still an eternity to bat. With only an over or two to go we even had Connor padded up, that will cost us heaps. We managed to finish the 1st innings at 8/106.
Wait and see what happens next week, could go either way. Connor had 2 bob each way by fielding for both the White team and the Brown team. He has still to collect his fee from the Brown team
