Wanderers U10 Brown Nov 15th
It was a sleepy group of 10 who took the field for Wanderers U10 Brown against Norths at Pimlico, with Luke Carnes (C), Liam Cronin (V-C), Adam Munro (K1) and Tom Chappell (K2). Luke won the toss and sensibly elected to field, to avoid fielding last in the hottest part of the morning. Norths bowled and fielded tightly, and with Wanderers not too keen on exertion, the score was only 2/28 at the end of Wanderers first 11 overs. Adam did a good job in his first ever go at ’keeping. In contrast, Norths were very hungry for runs and stole run after run from the Wanderers fielders. Even though the Wanderers bowling was not too bad, Norths compiled 43 runs for the loss of only one wicket, which was bowled by Luke. In their second session, Wanderers advanced their score to 65, with the loss of another 4 wickets. Highlight of the session was a partnership between Tom and Joshua Eaton and then Tom and Harrison Muller. Even so, in their second session, Norths easily overtook the Wanderers tally (in their 16th over) and went on to score 105. The only Norths wicket to fall was a run-out effected by bowler Cathy Lawn following a good return from Harrison fielding at mid off. Batting for Wanderers: Tom 10*, Harrison 8, Adam Matthews 5, Liam 3*, Joshua 3, Jordan Davis 2*, Luke 2 and Kelly Hvlenjak 1*. In all, Norths put on a great display of sharp fielding and quick running between the wickets. Their tally of 71 runs off-the-bat were all run, with not a single boundary.
Wanderers U10 Brown Nov 22nd
The U10 Browns fielded a full team for the first time this season, when they met Wests Black at Heatley Park, with Liam Cronin (C), Mackenzie Bagley (VC), Jordan Davis (Keeper 1) and Luke Carnes (Keeper 2). The new player was Nicholas Nugent, playing his first ever match. Wanderers won the toss, and sent in Wests who finished their first batting session at 2/53. The two Wests wickets fell to catches off
Luke’s bowling. The first was taken by Cathy Lawn at cover-point, and the second by Tom Chappell at silly point, who charged in from slip to take a brilliant diving catch of a skied ball. Apart from these highlights and two maiden overs by Adam Matthews and Joshua Eaton, Wanderers’ bowling was too inaccurate. Nearly half of the Wests runs were wides. In reply, Wanderers struggled against Wests’ more accurate bowling and fielding, and ended their first batting session at 4/35, 18 runs behind Wests.
Wests followed up with another fair batting session, finishing at 4/96. The third Wests wicket was bowled by Joshua who delivered yet another maiden, while the fourth was a good catch at mid-on by Harrison Muller off Cathy’s bowling. Apart from a second maiden over by Adam Matthews, Wanderers again bowled too many wides. Batting last, Wanderers put on 32 more runs, for the loss of another 5 wickets, to end the day at 9/67. Batting scores for Wanderers: Mackenzie 12, Tom 9, Joshua 7*, Cathy 5*, Harrison 4, Jordan 2*, Luke 2, Nicholas 2, Liam 1 and Adam Matthews 1. Best of the bowling: Luke 2/7 off 1 over, Joshua 1/0 off 2 overs, Cathy 1/9 off 2 overs and Adam Matthews 0/0 off 2 overs. With most Wanderers batsmen making runs, the main difference between the two teams was in the number of wides: Wests only 19 to Wanderers 46.

Under 12 Gold - 15th November - report by David Eaton
Wanderers Gold commenced a 2 day game against West’s on the 15 November with Sam Lanskey as captain. The toss was lost and West’s elected to bat. The first 13 overs before drinks can best be described as “opportunity lost” as we failed to take a wicket and in the process dropped 4 catches. The West’s opening batsman piled on the runs although generally our ground fielding was reasonable. It wasn’t until approximately the 15th over of the game that we took our first wicket through leg spinner Jake Matthews. Jake was well supported by Jack Gusmeroli with a catch that he had to jump into the air to take. Daine McDonald was brought in to the attack and bowled 4 economical overs including taking 2 wickets. Daine hit the stumps for his first wicket and got further reward in his last over when Jake Matthews took a good catch at cover. Dane had fine figures of 2 for 11 of 4 overs. Jack Gusmeroli came to the crease to bowl the last over of West’s 25 overs and had immediate success with the help of an errant fly which flew into the eye of the batsman who stepped away after the ball had been bowled and was clean bowled. Jack then knocked over the middle stump with the very next ball to be on a hat trick. Unfortunately the batsman swung at his 3rd ball but just missed the edge. The second session of bowling was far more accurate and our fielding was a lot better although we still dropped 2 catches in that session. Our spirits generally remained high and eventually we had to take a catch.
Our batting started as disastrously as our fielding with Ryan Eaton being run out in the first over and Sam Kriesel being clean bowled 2 balls later. We were in significant trouble at 2 for 2 at the end of the first over. Jack Gusmeroli and Jake Matthews consolidated with a very good 44 run partnership of which Jack contributed most of the runs. Jack displayed some sensible shot selection and some very good running between wickets. However as often happens with batting one mistake
and it all can end and that is what happened with Jack as he played at a wide ball hitting the ball in the air left of point to which the point fielder dived and took a miraculous catch. Jack compiled a very good 32. As often happens once a partnership is broken another wicket also falls and Jake followed 3 runs later mistiming a flick off his pads hitting the ball to backward square leg where a very good catch again was taken by the fieldsman running in and catching the ball low down. West’s lost one of their fieldsmen to a bleeding nose and then Jesse Grunske attempting a pull shot off a full toss top edged it into his forehead. Jesse has the reminder of the incident with the seam now imprinted on his forehead which should be a warning to all that the use of helmets is highly recommended. It is not a sign of fear of the bowlers that you wear a helmet but rather protection from these types of incidents that helmets are well worth their money. Luckily this happened the last ball before drinks and Jesse was able to have some time out and recover. He returned to the crease wearing a skid lid. Ultimately Jesse skied a catch to cover. Daine McDonald and Joshua Evens then consolidated further and both remain not out and will bat again at the beginning of our next half of batting. Joshua Evans is on 20 not out and Dane on 7 not out.
Despite being out fielded by Wests the game is evenly poised and we have everything to play for next week.
Under 12 Gold - 22 November – report by David Eaton
November 22nd was the second week of the 2 day game against West’s. As a recap West’s were 5 for 107 and Wanderer’s were 5 for 92 at the half way mark. Wanderer’s were bowling first up and William Orreal bowled the first over with immediate success with a couple of chances and finally Sam Lanskey backed up his bowler by moving in quickly taking a good catch moving forward and low down. Will and Jack Gusmeroli formed a good bowling partnership keeping the score relatively tight and in Jack’s 3rd over he dislodged the batsman’s castle and then did it again in his 4th over of the morning session. Jack had the fine figures of a 4 for 11 off 5 overs and all his wickets were bowled.
Jesse Grunske bowled his best spell of the season having none for 3 off 3 overs until the batman got too him in his 4th over. The West’s batsman continued to score steadily and they progressed their score to 170 before Sam Lanskey brought himself back into the attack with immediate success to end the West’s innings after 42 overs. 170 sounds like a pretty good score to chase but keep in mind we still gave away 40 runs in wides, byes and no balls. The best of our bowlers were Jack Gusmeroli 4 for 11, Daine MacDonald 2 for 11, William Orreal 1 for 9, Jake Matthews 1 for 19, Sam Lanskey 1 for 22.
Heading to the crease we needed 78 to win with our not out batsman being Daine MacDonald and Joshua Evans. Both Daine and Josh proceeded to bat for the next 13 overs until drinks and both batted very sensibly and rotated the strike reasonably well until the heat got the better of the both of them and the scoring slowed a little. They put on a 55 run partnership that session with Daine scoring well off his hip and with one lovely cover drive. Josh was very strong to the leg side and played a number of shots through the gully region that gave him runs. At drinks Josh Evans retired and that brought Will to the crease. Needing 23 to win Will edged his very first ball to the keeper and was given out. Riley and Daine took the score close to the win before Daine played only his second chancy shot and hit the ball straight to the fielder at square leg. Sam and Riley then took the score past the West’s total before Sam hit a loose ball straight to point and the fielder took an excellent low down catch. Josh Parkinson and Riley Heaver then put on a 36 run partnership most of which came off the bat of Riley before Josh also hit a catch to point. Riley and Josh Evans, who was able to return, then batted out the remaining couple of overs of the innings to ensure that we were not dismissed. The highlight of that session of batting was Riley’s 52 not out off 42 balls. Other batsman to impress was Joshua Evans with 51 not out and Daine 28 and from last week Jack 32. Ultimately we finished at 9 for 230 off our 50 overs.

SKIPS MATCH REPORT
15/01/08 U12 WANDERERS (WHITE) V WANDERERS (BROWN)
Today’s match was the local derby and the sledging started as soon as Friday’s training session began. Normally I would frown on such behaviour, but that fact is that I instigated it and it would seem that I had underestimated the quality of sledging I was up against in the shape of Borat (Aka Brendan Mills) and Spike Milligan (Aka Cameron Murphy).
The match started with Borat wining the toss and sending the White team into bat. The game started with the most pathetic display of out fielding I have ever witnessed. The youngster, Paully Squires, was fielding at short backstop when he tried to stop the ball with his foot. Well the ball went for 4 byes; he blew one of his double pluggers and lost his cigarette. Paully’s mum had only packed half a packet of ciggies in his lunch box so he wasn’t going to have a good day. Borat’s 3rd ball clean bowled Bradley for a duck, then soon after he run out Nic Not out (who needs a new nick name) with a direct hit and he and Spike give it to me. An over later Connor played onto his wicket and we were 3/5. Wade and Squiz settled things down with Wade playing the supporters roll while Squiz smashed the ball around the park, targeting the weak link (Young Paully) at back stop. The highlight for my day was when Wade was caught off Spike’s bowling, but it was the 7th ball of the over. Luckily I was able to pull rank and retire him not out. Take that Spike. Squiz was well caught soon after by, who else, Spike and we finished the 1st innings at 4/50
We opened the bowling with a Pockets and Super Cal, but unfortunately we served Isaac a bowl of fruit which he quickly despatched to and over the boundary. Jens picked up Mark’s wicket thanks to an excellent catch from Pockets (Complete with hands out of pockets), but Harry and Isaac had us chasing leather for the next 6 overs. Naturally I had Borat & Spike letting me know it each time the ball crossed the boundary. Sup Cal picked up a wicket, and then Borat and Spike were together at the crease. Fortunately we had them both back in the pavilion before a war started on the wicket. Spike was out off a ball from Squiz that was caught magnificently by Pockets, and Borat was run out by Jens for quack quack quack. Probably the only way we would have got him. The Brown team went to drinks at 5/111
Unfortunately by this stage young Paully had coughed up a lung and had done his back in, so he was unable to take the field. Jens and Super Cal started the 2nd innings and both looked set for a long innings. Unfortunately, before you could say Super Cal a fragalistic espealladosious, they were back in the shade removing their pads. Pockets and Wade were left at the crease to save our innings. Pockets found the boundary twice in one over and kept the strike turning over. When Muzza ran Wade out we were finished for the day at 74.
Harvey, Muzza and Jonathon all batted well, but Isaac and Harry stole the show with excellent batting and put on big scores. Pockets picked up another 2 catches thanks to these two boys, but the game was gone with the Brown team finishing on 163.
Many thanks to Rhonda Murphy for bundling the smiling assassins into the car and taking them a long long way away from me soon after the game finished. Thanks again to the Jens Dad and Mr Land for helping with umpiring, and two excellent scores, Mrs Land and Connors Mums for scoring and providing the coach with a latte. Murph Jnr, you did a good job also.
Best on day
Squiz 22 , Pockets 13no, Wade 12, Jens 9 and Super cal 5
Jens 2/8, Squiz 2/20, Wade 1/13, Super Cal 1/31 & Pockets 1/33
Isaac 61, Harry 49, Craig 15 & Jonathon 13 not out (not bad for his 1st game)
Craig 1-4, Spike 1-4, Borat 1-6, Jonathon 1/18 and Spike none / heaps
Wanderer’s U14 Brown –v- West’s Blue Match Report – 15th November 2008
This week Wanderers U14 White took on Wests Blue at Cutheringa Park. Wanderers won the toss and sent Wests into bat. Wanderer’s opening bowlers were Nathaniel and Cameron. The boys bowled well, and bowled three overs each. West’s batsmen were intent on seeing the opening bowlers out which they did successfully and at the end of six overs. West’s were 0/27. The first change bowlers were Ben and Cameron, and Ben with his first over took the first wicket of the game bowling the West’s batsman out at which time the score was 1/28. Cameron from the other end bowled equally as well bowling their new incoming batsman out a short time later at which time Wests were 2/39. Wanderers fielded well before the drinks break and bowled equally as well with Lachlan taking a further wicket which was well caught by Nathaniel. At drinks Wests were 3/75. During the drinks break someone must have slipped something into the boy's water as they became lethargic during the next 17 overs resulting in a number of misfields which gave Wests some easy boundaries. Ashley again struck with his loopy ball special in his first over after drinks, the batsman giving Ben an easy catch at which time Wests were now 4/83. West’s new batsman who had just previously played in a Gold game began to slaughter our bowlers putting on another 111 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. At the completion of their innings Wests were 6/191.
At the change the boys knew they had a difficult score to chase. Our two openers this week were Cameron and Jack. Both boys played well against West’s opening bowlers moving the score along to 22 before Jack was narrowly run out at the strikers end. Ben then came to the crease and found scoring difficult allowing Cameron to take the strike and attempt to move the run rate along which he did quite well hitting a number of 4’s. It was the 11t h over before our second wicket fell when Ben was bowled for 3. Wanderers were now 2/56. This brought Nathaniel to the crease and instantly he attacked
West’s bowling smashing 22 off 13 balls before he was bowled by one of West’s spinners and just before drinks Wanderer’s were 3/116. After drinks Cameron and Ashley returned at the crease and found scoring over the next few overs difficult only making 7 runs off 5 overs before Cameron was run out for a well controlled and near game saving 55 runs, his personal best. The pressure was now on as we needed 69 runs off the last 10 overs. Ashley soon retired after facing his mandatory 25 balls on 11 runs which brought Hayden to the crease. At this time Wests reintroduced their Gold bowlers causing a middle and late order collapse in our batting with Hayden being bowled for 0, Luke being bowled for 9, Sam being caught for 4, Michael being bowled for 0, and Lachlan being caught for 7. At this time we were 9/159 still needing a further 32 runs off 3 overs to win the game. Ashley returned to the crease from retirement and was joined by Angus Meikle. The boys attempted to lift the run rate in an effort to win the game but unfortunately Ashley was run out at the non strikers end leaving us 26 runs short of a victory.
Although we lost this match the boys put on a great performance against a number of players out of their league. The best with the bat this week were Cameron scoring 55 runs, Nathaniel scoring 22, Ashley 13 runs and with the ball Ben taking 1/14, Cameron 1/17, Lachlan 1/8, Ashley 1/7, Jack 1/24 and Sam 1/25.
It was pleasing to see our boys applauding their team mates for their batting efforts, encouraging each other in the field and playing the game in the spirit that it should be at this level. Thank you to Jack and Sam, who played UP as we were short this week.
Great job guys, see you all at training.
Wanderer’s U14 White –v- Brother’s Beaches
Match Report – 15th November 2008
The White team had their first win of the season this week beating the Brother’s side – final scores being Wanderers 7/170, Beaches all out 106.
Although I wasn’t at the match I have been given the scores and believe that everyone should be aware of some excellent performances within the White team.
Starting with the batting, Nicholas not out 59, Jacob not out 21, Jeremy 23, and Hudson 14 and with the ball Riley B 3/14 which included a hat trick, the second Wanderer’s have made this year, Hudson 2/14, Jeremy 1/2, Jack 1/10 and Riley Y 1/10.
Great effort guys, hopefully this is the first of many more wins for you this season.

Wanderer’s U14 Brown –v- West’s Black
Match Report – 22nd November 2008
This week Wanderer’s U14 Brown took on the in form and unbeaten West’s Black at Gill Park 2. Wests won the toss and elected to bat on an extremely hot and humid day. Due to these weather conditions our bowlers found it difficult to hold onto the ball with their sweaty hands. At the completion of West’s innings they were 7/242. A number of dropped catches, the heat of the day and some brilliant batting by Wests afforded them this score. Best bowling for Wanderers was Luke with 2/12, Hayden 1/16, Ben 1/17, Jack 1/23, Angus 1/23 and Nathaniel 1/29. Apart from the dropped catches the boys fielded well in these conditions. As the boys had finished their fielding component the clouds began to gather and it looked as if the game could be washed out.
Our two openers for the day were Cameron and Angus and Cameron hit a 4 to the boundary with the first ball he faced. Wests set an attacking field and now with the overcast conditions their bowlers were able to swing the ball which caused the majority of our batsmen being caught out in the slip and gully cordon. First to go was Angus who was caught for 0, Cameron was caught for 6, Nathaniel was caught for 0, Jack who played an excellent innings of 19 was caught, Ben caught for 0, Aaron who also played well for his 25 including one 6 and four 4’s was caught in the same area. Ashley was caught for 0, Lachlan attempting to move the run rate along was run out for 10, Hayden was found trapped in front of the wicket lbw for 11, Luke caught for 0 and Michael was left once again not out on 0. At the completion of our innings we had been bowled out in 16 overs for 99 runs.
Congratulations to West’s Black as they had an outstanding performance with both the bat and the ball and in the field taking all their catches.
Wanderers some work with catching and defensive play is on the agenda at training this week. Don’t feel too bad as we did have the rough end of the stick fielding in the 37 plus degree heat. See you all at training.

Under 16 Brown Report
Brown won the toss and decided to bat first. We were up against a side in West Saints who defeated premiership front runners Sub-Parks last week so it was going to be a tough game. Brendon Dean and Phillip English opened the batting and it wasn’t long before Brendon was bowled by a good ball for 1. Brown was 1-1 when Kurt “Shrek” Worth came to the crease and from the outset showed he was a class batter by hitting a lovely 4 to get off the mark. Phillip and Kurt set about dismantling the West bowling attack with some aggressive hitting and smart running between the wickets. At 94, Shrek was caught by a scorcher at square leg that most would have not even seen but in the mood Shrek was in it took a catch like that to dismiss him.
2-94 and Brown was looking good as Lachlan Miller entered the arena. Lachlan started to rip into the attack from the outset and as Phillip went to assist got an edge and was caught behind for 61. We were now 3-104 as George Dalton strode to the crease looking to break his chain of ducks. George thought he had done that we he got an edge onto his pad as it raced away to fine leg only to find out he was given LBW, unlucky with the call, George took it like the fine player he is and walked off knowing it was all so close and that a big score was looming.
The score was now 4-114 and while Ron Torr was listed to bat at number 9, he was moved up to keep the hard hitting and aggressive batting on the move. Lachy Miller kept the score rising as Ron bumbled around getting his eye in which he didn’t do in previous games. Ron managed a couple of fours but Lachy was hitting out and with the score at 187 he was bowled for 44 and Ron was telling everyone how hot it was.
Alex Oram came to the crease and hit a four to get off the mark and then 2 balls later got a beauty to see him depart on 4 with the score 6-191. As Thomas Reason came to the crease Ron thought he had to start hitting now as he was the senior in the partnership and boy did Ron start hitting. It felt like Ron had decided if it wasn’t a four it was not worth doing so his main scoring shot became the 4 to any part of the ground and even Thomas hit his first 4 in senior cricket so congratulations to him. Thomas showed his usual grit with the bat and with the score on 221 was clean bowled.
Lachlan Meikle came out and he is pretty handy with the bat and Ron thought the strike should be his for a while and he just kept smashing fours but thought a six wouldn’t go astray. As Ron got to 96 he was looking to get his hundred with his usual scoring shot (the four) but was bowled by a ball he really should have smashed, we think his eyes got so big they lost the ball in flight. Rumours are that Ronny became aggressive after being advised that he would be retired if there was more than 2 dot balls in any over he faced, this is only a rumour of course.
Ricky Hlevnjak came to the crease with only 1 ball to face and decided that a four was the only stroke for the day and he left the crease again 4 no. What happened to Lachy you might ask, he faced only six balls with all his time at the crease to get 6 runs but he did keep the momentum going as he whispered in Ronny’s ear, who knows, maybe he started the rumour.
Wests then went into bat and were facing a Wanderers opening attack of Ricky and Lachy Meikle, who kept them quiet and well behind in the run chase and after 8 overs they were 0-33. Phillip and Shrek came on to bowl next and after a shaky start, Phillip bowled the opener with a beautiful quick ball that surprised the batter. West were 1-66 and they were looking good as the score climbed to 97 but right then they tried a quick single which is usually safe as the ball was hit at a nice speed to mid on but Phillip showed amazing agility for a tall young man a picked up the ball and fired it at the keepers end scoring a direct hit and running the batter out by a metre.
Shrek not to be out done, then chimed in with a wicket and who took the catch, none other than his bowling partner Phillip, yet again in the action. The score was 3-106 and Wests had some fight left in them but once Shrek ran out the last of their recognised batters it seemed to be over with the score at 4-137 but they just kept fighting on. Drinks was taken after 20 overs and then Shrek decided to bring Lachy Meikle and Ricky back on to try and finish the game. Lachy Miller took a nice catch to give Lachy Meikle a wicket and start the end for Wests. Ricky was sending down bullets and managed to bowl 2 of the Wests batsmen and with the score at 7-157 it seemed only a matter of time.
More bowling changes and finally after another superb run out Wests were 8-164. Thomas came on to bowl an over but decided he only needed 1 ball to end the day after Wests managed to drag out to 198 runs. In the bowling Ricky got 2-19 off 7 overs, Lachy Meikle got 1-29 off 7, Phillip was 1-32 off 5, Shrek got 1-44 off 5 and Thomas Reason got 1-0 of 1 ball.
Congratulations to Thomas reason who got his first wicket for Wanderers today in only his 4th game.
Well done Brown on another great performance.
Our A Grade suffered its first defeat of the season last weekend to Brothers. Whilst the defeat was hard to swallow there were some positives to come out of the match. Firstly, our two Papuan New Guinea sponsored players performed admirably and certainly made their mark in their first appearance this season. Fast bowler Willie Cavera tore through the Brothers’ top order the previous week and Assad once again lived up to his prowess in the field effecting a brilliant run-out. However, we meandered a bit mid-way through Brothers batting and allowed them to score 250. This should have been achievable but oppressive conditions curtailed our batsmen, Jason Walsh continued his fine form scoring 60, Assad had a fine knock of 37 and skipper Patrick Hagenbach batted for a lengthy spell in terrible humid conditions for 35. Youngster Matthew Ahern once gained in confidence with a not-out 25. We fell short but still manage to hold a slender lead (unofficially) in the A grade premiership.

Reserve Grade had a match that we would rather forget going down to Brothers at home. I’m sure these lads can get back into the winners circle next round.
3rd Grade have played two one-dayers over the previous two weeks and won both. Last week, under 10 coach Scott Nosworthy once again had a big day with the bat powering to 127 off about 68 balls.
4th Grade No.1 continue their unbeaten run and we look forward to them continuing in the same vain.
