BREAKING NEWS

Our two PNG imports, Assad Valla and Willie Gavera should be here in Townsville in time for our next A Grade match. Most of us are aware of Assad and his abilities and we are looking forward to Assad re-joining Wanderers this season. Our second import is Willie Gavera I have included his profile for all to see.

Willie Gavera is a right-arm fast bowler who is part of Papua New Guinea's Under-19 squad for the World Cup in 2008. He admires Ricky Ponting for his batting and fielding skills and wants to represent PNG at the international level.
We’re really looking forward to their arrival

Wanderers U10 Brown Oct 25th – report by Bob Lawn

Ten Wanderers U10 Brown players, with Cathy Lawn (C), Tom Chappell (V-C) and Luke Carnes and Liam Cronin as the ’keepers, met Wests Blue on their home ground at Cutheringa. The newcomer to the team was Adam Munro (Adam ‘2’), playing his first ever field game. Wests won the toss, and elected to bat. Wanderers bowled very tidily, with only 13 wides during Wests first 11 overs plus a maiden over by Harrison Muller. Even so, Wests ended their first session at 1/48, due to some good batting. The one Wests wicket to fall was taken by Kelly Hvlenjak, who bowled very tightly taking 1/1. In reply, Wanderers managed 38, which was 10 runs behind Wests, albeit with the loss of no wickets. The Wanderers score was helped along by 21 wides from Wests, plus two great fours off consecutive balls by Adam Matthews (Adam ‘1’). In their second session, Wests advanced their score to 79, but lost another 4 wickets in the process. Their score might have been higher, but for the steady fall of wickets and the tight Wanderers’ bowling (only 11 more wides, plus a maiden over from Adam ‘2’). Harrison took his first wicket for Wanderers, when Liam safely gloved a catch-behind to dismiss the batsman. Joshua Eaton clean-bowled his wicket while Luke and Mackenzie Bagley each effected a run-out. Needing 44 to win, Wanderers started off well, with a great partnership between Tom and Joshua, which saw the score advance by 21 in only 2 overs. The next 4 overs saw tight bowling by Wests, with only 1 run added, and then Cathy and Luke came together and advanced the score to 72. With 2 overs to go, Mackenzie put the game beyond doubt, with 3 great fours and a single off 5 balls. Final score for Wanderers was 1/91, with individual batting scores as follows: Mackenzie 15*, Tom 12*, Adam ‘1’ 9*, Joshua 7*, Cathy 3*, Luke 3*, Adam ‘2’ 1* and Liam 1. A great team effort with everyone making a good contribution during the game.

Wanderers White Under 10 Cricket Team – The season so far

As you can see from the table below the boys of the Wanderers Under 10 White side have been outstanding in all 3 games this season. They won their first 2 games over Wests and Brothers by over 100 runs and last week defeated a very good Redbacks team by 40 runs. The most pleasing aspect of their performances so far is the way they have shared the runs and wickets between each other and the enthusiasm they bring to the field each week. They are a very good team and I look forward to seeing them develop into an even better team as the season goes on.

Hi all, Walshy wants your attention.

I recently sent you all an email about my efforts to raise funds for Men’s health issues. I realise that a lot of you will be unable to lodge donations over the Internet (see below on how to) so I have placed a donation tin at the clubhouse. I’m actively seeking your support in these efforts to raise these funds, so please, put a few dollars in the collection tin at the clubhouse.

I will be attempting to grow a “MERV” type moustache after Ross Goodwin gave a substantial donation if I would give it a go, thanks Ross for your donation but not for your suggestion. I will be out west in Mount Isa over the next few weeks so it will be a shock when you next see me.

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'm growing a Mo. That's right I'm bringing the Mo back because I'm passionate about tackling men's health issues and being proactive in the fight against men's depression and prostate cancer.

To donate to my Mo you can either:
Click this link https://www.movember.com/au/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink&rego=1526721&country=au  and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or

Write a cheque payable to 'Movember Foundation', referencing my Registration Number 1526721 and mailing it to:
                                           Movember Foundation
                                           PO Box 292
                                           Prahran VIC 3181

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues and donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative. The PCFA and beyondblue will use the funds to fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and depression.

Did you know?

Depression affects 1 in 6 men....most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.

Last year in Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of  prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who will die from breast cancer annually.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support.

Terry Walsh

Skip McGovern never ceases to amaze us with his willingness to help out the club. Senior Match News

What a weekend! Wickets everywhere.

Reserve grade skipper Justin Tolley bagged a career best 7 wickets as Wanderers bowled Wests out for 199. Now, all Justin needs to do is back up his bravado and score a lot of runs. Seriously though, great stuff Justin, a great leader’s performance.

In 3rd grade Scott Nosworthy (yes, one of our U/10 coaches) took 10 wickets for the match which we unfortunately narrowly lost despite bowling the opposition out for 55.

In A Grade, Stephen Cain starred with the ball snaring 5 for 38 as we rolled Suburban Parks for 120. Ryan Dowson chipped in with 3/40 and skipper Patrick Hagenbach took one wicket. In reply we are 3 for 76 with Jason Walsh not 35, Darren Frakes scored 29.

There are no fixtures this coming weekend for A grade or Reserve Grade due to representative matches. Full match reports when these matches conclude.

Friday Nights @ The Eagles’ Nest

You are reminded that you can enjoy the comforts of your clubhouse on Friday nights with discounted stubbies ($2.50) and BBQ ($1.50 snag on bread or $4 steak sangas).

Under 8’s cricket (In2Cricket) is also conducted on Friday evenings from approx 6:15pm.

Once upon a time we had great social events, where have they gone?

There was a lot of talk prior to this season about having more socials but I cannot say that I’ve heard about any coming up.

C’mon people, let’s get some great fun-filled socials up & running.
