What a great weekend we just had, the Cowboys though not coming home victorious certainly showed they were very competitive and held their heads high.
Wanderers recorded victories in all four senior matches played over the weekend, I'll summarise the matches below but first there's a bit of housework that needs to be done.
Three or four of the senior players, led by Matthew (Gweedo) Castek, have put up their hands to coach both Under 14 teams. Their new training times are now Thursday & Friday afternoons from 4:30 to approx 5:30. Under this arrangement, we will need parents to assist with scoring & umpiring duties on the weekends, so if you can help out, please let the Coaches know at training.
At tonight's monthly Club meeting we decided to embark on a Calcutta raffle with the drawing date to be 18th December, which is also the final Saturday prior to Christmas. This is a big undertaking and we need to ensure we sell the full 1000 tickets well before the drawing date. Prizes will be 1st: - $1000, 2nd: - $500 & 3rd: - $250. On the evening of the drawing, there will a certain amount allocated to free drinks & food and entry to the drawing will be with a purchased ticket. For those who are unaware of how this Calcutta operates, I'll give you a brief explanation. There's 1000 tickets printed & sealed, numbered from 0001 to 1000, you purchase a sealed ticket and upon opening the ticket, you pay the amount shown, e.g. if your ticket number is 0350, you would pay $3.50 etc. Every team will be allocated a certain number of tickets to sell and we are hopeful that all tickets will be sold & returned without any hassles. If everything goes according to plan, we should be able to make approximately $2,500.00 profit so I urge everyone to get behind it & sell & support this Calcutta.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we have also embarked on a fundraising campaign to build a new machinery shed that is urgently required if we want to continue to grow this great club of ours. So far, the response has been outstanding with about $2200 already receipted and at least another $800 promised. We'll have the acknowledgement sign up in the clubhouse in the very near future and on the website. If you want to know more or how to get involved please visit our website page http://www.wandererscricket.com/machine_shed_invite.html
Another fundraising project that commenced in the last month and has already produced over $400 is the Commonwealth Bank Referral Scheme. For every successful house loan that we at Wanderers refer to the Commonwealth Bank through our A Grade captain / coach & club Treasurer Darren Frakes, Wanderers Cricket Club is paid a referral of $200. Remember, a referral is just that & the person(s) seeking the home loan doesn't have to be a club member, it could be a relative, work colleague or friend, if the loan is successful, we get $200. Once again, full details are available on our website at http://www.wandererscricket.com/commbank.html
If you do not have Internet access, you can call Darren on 0408 248 258. If you are referring someone to Darren, make sure you tell them to mention the Wanderers Cricket Club scheme.
OK, let's have a look at how our senior teams performed in their first outing of the season. The A Grade had a 53 run victory over Wests at Gill Park with Sean Death taking out the Man-of-the-Match $30 Centenary Hotel meal voucher award. This award was a very close call with Matthew Castek taking 4 wickets. Scores below.

Reserve Grade's first outing of the season was also against West but were playing a 40 over one-day match. We batted first and were in a lot of trouble until some late order resistance and run scoring saw us score 9/163 to give our bowlers a competitive score to defend. An undefeated 78 run, 10th wicket partnership between Sean Bell 43* and Kingsley Grimshaw 24* lifted us from a precarious 9/85. Glenn Petersen then starred with the ball taking the first 5-wicket haul of the season finishing with 5 wickets for 14 runs off 8 overs. Sean Bell wrapped up the Man-of-the-Match after his great batting taking 4/31. This was a great comeback for the Ressies with special mention obviously to Belly (Dinga), Glenn Petersen, 15-year-old Kingsley Grimshaw & Bradley Stout. Garron Metcalf who just joined us at Wanderers has been sent on an assignment overseas with the Army and we wish him all the best and a safe return that we hope is not too distant away.

3rd Grade had a resounding win over Saints at Gill Park in a two-day match. Last week we batted first scoring 8/282. Rising star Andrew Thomson top scored with 70, skipper Carl Humphreys 56, Garron Metcalfe 51 and another rising star Bradley Stout scored 40 with newcomer Kevin Marty chipping in with 24. In reply, Saints could only manage 192 all out. Andrew Thomson picked up Man-of-the-Match snaring 4 wickets to add to his 70 runs. Kingsley Grimshaw & Garron Metcalfe both picked up two wickets with Craig Hallett & John Gahan both snaring one each.
